The gymnasium of Lizdeika is a four year upper secondary school implementing the curriculum of secondary education. In September 2017 the gymnasium was joined by another gymnasium of the town and since then the only Lizdeika’s gymnasium providing upper secondary education has existed in the town. Thus this is a challenge as two communities joined with different traditions and experiences. So the gymnasium community has to find ways how all teachers’ competences and skills could be fully used in projecting and organizing training techniques, approaches and environment. The aim of the gymnasium is to reach the best results in academic achievement, forming students’ social competences and skills as well as designing community’s positive values. Especially it is important to form teachers’ positive values such as encourage them to understand the need of lifelong learning, being habitually interested in their subject, innovation of teaching the subject, developing critical and creative thinking competences, being self-confident and motivated. The most important is to understand that teachers should cooperate and communicate with their students all the time. Our gymnasium has developed good intercultural and Art training as we implement 5 or 6 international project per school year, every school year students prepare a performance, musical or rock opera. To develop efficiently science subjects the teachers organize classes in different environment. Our students have lessons at Universities and Colleges of Lithuania as our gymnasium cooperates with high schools of Lithuania. To broaden humanitarian training we foster our native language and literature organizing different conferences and events devoted to the Lithuanian language. In addition we are establishing other European languages and encourage students to learn the second, third foreign languages. Our gymnasium teaches English, French, German and Russian, we are planning to establish Spanish and Italian from the next school year. Therefore STRET activities are very necessary for developing general competences such as social responsibility, self-confidence, citizenship, critical and creative thinking. These competences are important and concurrent for 21st century people. The project STRET activities helped the gymnasium community understand the importance of social responsibility and the content of setting an enterprise. STRET project encourages project community to broaden the horizons in the idea of social issues of our environment, responsibility and citizenship. At present there are 74 teachers and 580 students in the gymnasium. The administration staff consists of the principal, three deputies for education and deputy for economy.
Entrepreneurship is taught at our gymnasium as an optional subject. The first and third class students choose this subject which consists of several modules related to this subject: ‘Entrepreneurship and management’ and ‘Business and retail management’. The first class students have one economics lesson a week as a compulsory subject where they learn about social enterprises and companies of social responsibility. The teacher of economics created a module of two years (one lesson a week) which is the result of STRET project ‘SE and CSR’. The first and third class students can choose and will start to participate in this programme from the 1st September 2018. As Entrepreneurship is a very new subject at schools so STRET has helped us learn a lot about SE and CSR.
