Prva sušačka hrvatska gimnazija in Rijeka is a secondary school which provides education in three educational programs: General- education program, Program specializing in Foreign Languages and Program specializing in Natural Sciences and Mathematics. The school is attended by 600 students aged 15 to 18 organized in 24 classes. There are 50 teachers who combine modern approaches to provide the best education. The school was founded in 1627 by the Jesuit order and has changed different names under different political entities but has continued to work until the present day. Primorsko-goranska county is the official founder of Prva sušačka hrvatska gimnazija in Republic of Croatia who operates under the Decree of the Ministry of Education and Sports from 1992. The school’s main objectives are the education of students organized by the National curriculum for pre-school, primary school and secondary school education regulated by the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Croatia, students development into responsible, active and capable citizens prepared for further education and competition in the labour market and to provides students with high quality education in the fields of STEM, social sciences, arts and languages.
Despite the fact that Prva sušačka hrvatska gimnazija in Rijeka is not a vocational school theirs student have plenty of opportunity to learn about the world of business. All the students attend several subjects such as Politics and Economy where they learn about political theories, systems and structures and about economic systems, markets, finances, business and management. Another subject is Civic Education where they learn about human rights, civil participation and European Union. Our students are also offered the opportunity to take classes related to entrepreneurship and business correspondence through extracurricular subjects. As part of Social Entrepreneurship orientation school has been participating as a partner in a two-year Erasmus+ project called Students Today- Responsible Entrepreneurs Tomorrow (STRET). The aim of the project is to include young people into the world of social entrepreneurship through various activities A Student Cooperative is in the process of taking its legal shape and we expect it to become operational within months. Its aim will be to enable student groups to design, produce and sell products and services. There is also a Volunteer Club and a number of sections invested into the management of natural resources. Students also participate in certain aspects of decision making through the Students’ Council of our school. They organize visits to successful local companies and the Chamber of Commerce where our students can gain knowledge about the world of business. We also organize excursions to various parts of Croatia and cities in Europe where students can visit museums, institutes, colleges, universities, cultural sites and theatres in order to meet diverse cultures and gain cultural and general knowledge.In addition, they students participate in European Youth Parliament, the project Euroscola, Mock Trial project, The Action Day, simulated sessions of Croatian Parliament, Štedopis- a quiz on financial literacy.
